A Song of Ice and Fire Audiobook Collection
There can never by too many great epic books or too many great fantasy books. People like to be surprised by the complexity of imagined worlds. That's what Tolkien's Meddle Earth has taught me. There is something magical about reading something totally invented. When it is well done, you fell like it really exists, it was just waiting for someone to tell the rest of the world about it. Reading good fantasy books, like George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series is like belonging to a secret club (well, not so secret now that the HBO adaptation is a huge hit).
Martin has set the bar high to whomever wants to come next. Much as Tolkien's, he has created an intricate world, populated by a huge cast of fascinating, complex characters, and boasting a history that stretches back twelve thousand years.
Three great story lines weave through the books, charting the civil war for control of the Seven Kingdoms; the defense of the towering Wall of ice in the uttermost north against the unearthly threat of the Others; and across the Narrow Sea the rise to power of Daenerys Targaryen and the last live dragons in the world.
In A Song of Ice and Fire Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.
